In terms of blogs and wikis, both have a similar concept about networking information and sharing information amongst each other online. With a blog, this can be established as a multi-person posting or singular person positing website, that makes information public by a series of blog posts on a blogger hosted web engine. It can only be made private if the blog owner requests it to be private that way nobody can see it.
A Wiki is more so a database of information that is networked and linked amongst a variety of people that can be a private collaborative database or a public encyclopedia like the Wikipedia page is. Both can be utilized in the business format in terms of the inclusion of company employees notes, commentary, excel spreadsheets, word documents, and company notes. Wiki's design helps to solve all these problems yet, unlike many traditional content management systems, remains simple enough for non-technical employees to use (Goodnoe, 2005). This showcases the importance of convergence in the mass media networking that goes on over online or network databases. There is a creation of a stream of consciousness or extended thought over conversation. Not to mention different people on a blog, can comment and share information the same way they can on a wiki. With this meshing of information, over time this conversation over these media formats can settle their minds on one universal idea they can agree about with providing all sorts of perspectives on what works and what does not. Not to mention, site moderators can update the information that everyone will see and this would be accepted well researched and information backed info that all can standby and learn from.
With the convergence of ideas, this can be led into blog collaborations that happen almost daily with businesses, magazines, and other old media formats reaching out to blogs to secure support, information, and advertising of information on these blogs. For example, the rise of the fashion blogger is noted when they collaborate with brands which as Barneys New York and Gap to sort reach new consumers and get word out about their products. Not to mention this is also seen with newspapers whose own editors can have an extension of themselves on this blog and newspapers can cite information from them.
P.S.- A new wiki idea could be a database for homework help for college students where they can share databases such as old exams to study from, collaborate on study groups online, and do things such as group projects online. I know this could be hard to implement and would need moderators but its just an idea that I think has never been done in this sort of format.
